One afternoon on a slow, dreary day in Yellowstone, we were heading outside of the park for food when we saw what we thought to be a friend of ours parked next to the road. Turns out it was a lost tourist, but when we pulled up behind the car, we found this beautiful bald eagle sitting on a snag. After getting my gear set-up, the bird took off (toward me, for once) and allowed me to capture my favourite bald eagle sequence, including this shot. Here’s the best part: what I didn’t know was that a massive golden eagle was sitting on a tree right above my head when I snapped this photo. As soon as I took my camera off the tripod, the golden eagle took off, alerting me to its existence and releasing a series of swear words from my mouth. Can’t win them all, I suppose.
