Ghost of the coast

Title: Ghost of the Coast

Location & Date: Princess Royal Island | September, 2000

Camera Set-Up: Nikon FM2 w/ Nikon 80-200 2.8 at 200mm

Shutter Speed: 1/400

Aperture: 6.3

ISO: 400

Note:

This is one of those old school slides – and not particularly well scanned or, truthfully, shot – that I captured during one of my five trips up to the land of the spirit bear (Great Bear Rainforest) when I was in high school. During each trip, I was able to see this old boar who, on this occasion, was especially beat up after too many fights for the prized salmon fishing location. Indeed, this is one of the last photos I ever took of him as he, presumably, died later that winter. It’s amazing I was able to visit this area and even more amazing that I was able to say goodbye to a specific bear who had come to be the face of our campaign. It’s also amazing I shot this in sunlight (rare on the coast) from a dingy using manual focus.
