Jill and I decided to spend some time exploring the national forests around Yellowstone National Park in 2015, including Montana’s Wade Lake. This beautiful hideaway is well worth a visit for the scenery, though it’s hardly a wildlife hotspot. That said, an early morning stroll around the lake produced this haunting-yet-peaceful setting of a cormorant sitting on a log, waiting for the sun to rise and burn off the fog. Normally I would have enjoyed the moment and carried on, but remembering that my friend (and long time Education Director at the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition) Kerrie Blaise
once studied this species of bird, I decided to break out my camera and freeze the moment for her.
