Have you ever felt like someone is watching you? If you’ve spent any time with great grey owls, you likely know what I mean. Searching for a great grey in the summer of 2015 without any real idea of where I was going, I suddenly felt like I was being watched. Jill wasn’t with me, fearful of being eaten by mosquitos. And I prayed I wouldn’t be looking into the eyes of a bear when I turned around. Thankfully, it wasn’t. What I found was a set of piercing yellow eyes belonging to a great grey staring back at me, half hidden by the tree between us. It was a stunning sight, as much as it was a spooky feeling. I snapped this one image, hand-held, and retreated, leaving the owl to be.
