The 2015 chapter of our annual Yellowstone voyage was defined by the weeks spent searching for and watching the grizzly bear known as Raspberry. Throughout her life, like most bears, she’s been a creature of habit, showing up in specific places and at specific times, like clockwork. But last summer, armed with her first set of (at least surviving) cubs, predicting Raspberry’s movements was like playing a game of whack-a-mole. Still, there were places she loved more than others and when she went missing one afternoon, Jill and I played a hunch, only to have the trio walk up the hillside below our car and walk right in front of us. The evening eventually turned into a predictable bear jam, but for these first few perfect moments, she was all ours.
